Netanyahu Copies Obama’s Website

The New York Times dug up a gem of an international political news story last week and I just had to post it here because it tickled that political junkie bone of mine that can make me unpopular at parties. Israeli prime minister candidate Benjamin Netanyahu posted a website that is the mirror image of Barack Obama’s:

“Imitation is the greatest form of flattery,” noted Ron Dermer, one of Mr. Netanyahu’s top campaign advisers. “We’re all in the same business, so we took a close look at a guy who has been the most successful and tried to learn from him. And while we will not use the word ‘change’ in the same way in our campaign, we believe Netanyahu is the real candidate of change for Israel.”

The Times also says Netanyahu’s campaign is using Twitter as a campaign tool and echoes Obama’s “Yes We Can” slogan with their own, “Together we can succeed.”

Good job, Ethan Bronner and Noam Cohen on a fun post-election find.

And I was totally kidding about being unpopular at parties. After a couple beers, I’m way fun. Especially during a game of Beer Pong – I might suck, but I can talk trash that’ll light any ass on fire.

Dare we hope that Netanyahu’s sincerest form of flattery will extend to justice and fairness for Palestinians?

I kept hearing that netanyahu had done so on NPR, but I didn’t realize he COPIEd his website, I thought it just meant he’d set up a myBN.org or something. That’s just lazy.

Mr. O’s chief of staff’s dad was an Israeli terrorist, so no worries, Israel and Obama will be joined at the hip, something we’ll have to get used to if we go down in flames due to Israel’s decision on preemptively striking places (Syria) just like a “little America”

    marc – shameless, isn’t it?

rob – i know about rahm’s dad’s past and am not sure that will directly affect obama’s policy. but i think obama will be overly pro-israeli in any case, a dangerous position when our middle east ally finds their national mandate in organized religion. bombs away!
